Frequently Asked Questions

Please find the most frequently asked questions about our project:

What is UOCEAN 2050®?

A community mission to clean, protect and restore the worlds oceans by 2050.

Is this a registered charity?

Yes, absolutely, this project Is founded by The Vayyu Foundation® - Registered Charity No: 1181313

Where is the plastic collected from?

We collect plastic from all around the planet, we believe in stopping plastics at their source, so we clean canals, river, beaches and the open ocean.

Who collects the plastic?

We have a range of people who collect the plastics, these include UOCEAN volunteers and our UOCEAN® Staff globally.

How did this movement start and who is the founder?

The movement started when our founder Chris Desai left the fast fashion industry after a revelation and seeing the pollution it was causing in the world and went sailing for 6 months to reflect on the next chapter of his life. He was deeply moved at the level of pollution on the beaches and at sea around the United Kingdom whilst sailing.

Chris went back into the fashion industry but decided to pioneer and create a sustainable organic fashion brand called Vayyu and shortly after its global success, he registered the non-profit charity called The Vayyu Foundation, to clean the world’s oceans whilst leading a new generation into clean and ethical fashion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you recycle everything you find?

We recycle the plastic that is still viable, unfortunately some of the pieces are non-recyclable such as crisp packets, so we partner with facilities that can dispose of them more sustainably.

How will you remove #1BILLIONKILOS of plastic?

We believe in a multifaceted approach at UOCEAN® 2050 , that is why we will collect the plastic by hand and also autonomous machinery such as river boats and plastic barriers in rivers and entries to the sea.

How do you know how much you have collected?

We simply weight the bag at the end of the clean up before the recycling stage occurs and verify it at the recycling factory.

How is the project funded?

We are funded by the public, brands, businesses, foundations, councils and private HNWI donors.

Can anyone join?

Yes, joining is simple, free and easy, you don’t need any experience or equipment, you just fill out the volunteer form on our website, then one of our UOCEAN® 2050 team will be in touch to get you equipped and out on a clean-up near you.

Can an existing group, school or NGO join The UOcean® Project?

Yes, we believe environmental issues can be solved with collaborations, teamwork and partnerships. We encourage all groups to get in touch with us and let’s stop ocean plastics together.

What is UOCEAN 2050® Corporate Offsetting?

Our UOCEAN® Offsetting Team is an individual from an underprivileged community that we employ to collect plastics and create a circular economy in these communities aligning with the UN SDG’s.

This enables individuals to break free of poverty by earning a living wage whilst protecting the ocean in the process.

UOCEAN®is a multifaceted last line of defence to protect the worlds oceans by
